November Birthstone

november.blue.topazThis month’s birthstone is a topaz. Although citrine is more commonly known as a November birthstone, its similar shades are often confused with a topaz. They are more known for their yellow tones, but can be actually be found in multitude shades of pink, orange and blue! However, today we’ll be shining the light on the less common, blue topaz!

They can generally be found in three different shades: pale sky blue, cool Swiss blue, and deep London blue. These sparkly stones evoke images of the wind, sky and water. The color blue is often associated with clear thinking, relaxation and peace. They help channel calming energies and fight off negative emotions. Blue topaz is particularly popular to artists as it helps bring out creative inspiration and increases one’s appreciation of beauty.

November babies, you are in luck as we have a wonderful selection of Leah Alexandra’s London blue topaz from her Fall collection in store!

October Birthstone

october.birthstoneHistorically, opals were considered to be the most mysterious of all gemstones, because it was believed to have all the virtues of other precious stones within. The word comes from the Latin opalus, meaning “precious jewel”. October babies are known to be lovers of beauty, peace and harmony, making the it a perfect gemstone to exemplify these personalities. The stone symbolizes purity, innocence and hope. It brings out confidence, loyalty, faithfulness and happiness to its wearer.

Opals make for extraordinary gifts as the colours can be a versatile asset to any wardrobe. These colours can vary from opalescent whites, to pink and even cooler blue and green tones.

We currently have pink opal for you to see, but we also have a wide variety of moonstone, which looks closest to white opals!

September Birthstone

september.sapphire

September. We cannot believe it either! But this month’s birthstone is a Sapphire!

Sapphires are one of the four precious gemstones, the other three being the diamond, the ruby, and the emerald. Sapphire is second only to the diamond in its strength and hardness. It is believed to promote joy, hope, faith, wisdom and protection during long travels. Sapphires have always been thought of as stones of destiny. They bring mental clarity and clear perception in order to fulfill your dreams one day.

Sapphires are most known to be worn by royalty (ie. Princess Diana’s engagement ring, which was eventually given to Catherine Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge). Even though Sapphires are commonly thought of as a stone with a saturated, deep blue colour, they also can be colourless! We just happen to have some fine Sapphire pieces from Vale Jewelry so stop by the shop and make yourself feel like royalty!

sapphire.valeAre these items currently not available in your size? Not to worry, we can take special orders for any Vale Jewelry orders! Just give us a ring in store and we’ll gladly fill your jewelry cravings.

August Birthstone

august.peridotPeridot, the birthstone for the month of August, is the stone commonly associated with spirituality and expression. The word “peridot” can either be pronounced as pear-ah-dough or pear-ah-dote. It originally comes from the French word “peritôt” meaning unclear, due to its inclusions and internal fractures that are often found within peridot gemstones.

It is believed to bring good health, peace to relationships and balance. Legend says that peridots have the ability to glow like a hot coal under lamplight at night to help prevent fearsome visions and nightmares. The stone is said to promote relaxation, and comfort; sounds like just the right stone to wear while soaking up the sun before Summer passes by!

poolside.loungingWhat’s a better way to spend a weekend than relaxing by the pool? Protect your eyes from the sun with a pair of mirrored Illesteva sunnies as you lounge for hours. Remember to remove your jewels before you dive into the deep end of the pool. Tame your mane from being tangled and dry by using Mermaid’s shampoo and conditioner! Introducing: Illesteva

illesteva.header

Violette’s newest line of sunglasses may be the illest; dare we say, they’re the Illest eva: Illesteva sunglasses that is.

The CFDA-nominated eyewear brand, Illesteva, was founded by Daniel Silberman and born-and-raised New Yorker Justin Salguero back in 2009 as a lifestyle project since they felt a lack of quality in the current state of eyewear. Even from a young age, Daniel Silberman has always had interest in design. Combined with his youthful ambition, he was able to find a factory in Italy to work with him and create Illesteva. Justin Salguero, also known as Jus Ske, is a pioneer DJ who has toured with Grammy-award artists Pharrell and Jay-Z for almost two decades.

Illesteva sunglasses are handmade in France and Italy with the world’s leading manufacturers of luxury eyewear. The duo have pushed the boundaries of design with fresh shapes and materials like acetate and bamboo, titanium and natural buffalo horn, with each new frame design. Inspired by their lifestyle, as well as their backgrounds in music and fashion, Silberman and Salguero continue to create a brand that stays true to classic lines with a modern twist.

Celebrities such as Beyonce, Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne have been spotted wearing the luxurious eyewear. Check them out at the shop, and see just how *ahem* illy these sunglasses really are!

It’s Cocktail Hour!

Violette.Cocktail.Hour

We know Summer is officially here when the heat makes us crave an icy, cool cocktail! But what’s better than sipping delicious drinks with friends, you ask? When it’s paired with a beautiful cocktail ring, of course!

We’re here to share some drink and jewelry pairings with you so the next time you’re out for a drink, you’ll look extra hip while you sip.
moonstone.pear.batida

First up is the Pear Batida. In Spanish, batida literally means “shake”. So ladies, whether you’re out on a first date or meeting your future in-laws, you can shake off the jitters with a pear batida and a stunning moonstone ring by Leah Alexandra!

labradorite.blackberry.bramble

Make the most of summer’s harvest by mixing up this fruity cocktail! Did you know that blackberries have some of the highest anti-oxidant levels of any fruit, and also help to fight the signs of aging? Next time you host a party, pair this cocktail with a mysterious labradorite Marcia Moran ring, and everyone will be wondering what your secret is!

amazonite.tidal.wave

Oh how we love the calming sound of the ocean waves rolling into the beach. This particular Alexis Bittar amazonite and quartz doublet ring has us day dreaming about being on the Mediterranean Sea. Although we would highly recommend not wearing jewelry near bodies of water, we’re not ones to judge about daydreaming.

ruby.frozen.raspberry

Long gone are the days when we used to don raspberries on our fingertips. Instead, wear this Ruby nougat ring by Leah Alexandra while sipping this delicious drink! As some of you may know, Rubies are stones associated with love, so it’s only natural that we paired it with a fruit that we’ve loved since childhood.
citrine.french.75

source: photo + recipe

This drink and jewelry pairings list would be incomplete without French 75! It’s safe to say that it’s one of our favourites. When this blend was first created back in 1915, it was believed to have such a kick, that it felt like being shelled with a French 75mm field gun! However, there’s no need to fret, because this amazing citrine and mother of pearl doublet ring by Alexis Bittar will make you feel like you have a shield of armour on hand!

Come see us at the shop (we’re open until 8pm on Fridays) and pick up a cocktail ring to enjoy with a delicious drink out on the patio this weekend!
